the Southern California Academic Center of Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention, University of California, Riverside
Goals and Objectives
- to provide training by professionals with expertise in various areas of Youth Violence Prevention (YVP) that graduate students might not otherwise be exposed to in their own university environments;
- to stimulate discussion and research ideas in the area of YVP that will be relevant to the graduate students' future plans for research and evaluation in the area of YVP.
Training Focus
- The prevalence of youth violence and sources of data, with a focus on immigrant communities in the U.S.
- Intervention design, methods, implementation, and evaluation
- Family, culture, immigration, and youth violence
- Funding sources and how to obtain funding for research in etiology and prevention of youth violence
Eligibility
- Advanced students currently enrolled in a doctoral program in one of the social sciences, education, public health, or related field are encouraged to apply;
- Students must be attending a school within the United States and be US citizens, or possess valid US student visas.
Expense
- Out-of-state participants will receive a stipend of $500 to cover travel and incidental expenses;
- California participants will receive a stipend of $250;
- All participants will be provided with lodging in UCB student housing for five nights and three meals a day for five days.
Application
- Application deadline is April 1, 2010;
- Applications must be complete and accompanied by all requested documentation in order to be considered for selection. Incomplete application packets will be discarded;
