Dr. Barry Krisberg, CCIYVP affiliate and president of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, was selected by the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare to receive this year’s Pro Humanitate Literary Award.

His article, “Hate the Player and Hate the Game: The Politics of the War Against the Young,” was one of three articles honored for exemplifying the intellectual integrity and moral courage required to transcend political and social barriers to promote best practice in the field of child welfare. The article spells out the continuing “war against the young,” and the increased punitiveness and criminalization of youth behavior in the courts, legislatures, media, schools, and on the streets.

The paper was prepared for a conference held by the Thelton Henderson Center on Social Justice, and it will be part of a forthcoming book, Beyond the War Against Crime, edited by Mary Louise Frampton and Jonathan Simon and published by NYU Press.
